Toledo firm Cooper & Kowalski shuts its doors

September 9, 2014 One of the largest firms in Toledo, Cooper & Kowalski, has shut down.

Founding partner Cary Cooper explained that “we got to the point where the numbers [of attorneys] were such and the structure was in place for a larger organization. It got to the point for professional reasons that it was best for the future, particularly for the younger lawyers. It takes a long time to grow a professional business these days, and we came to the conclusion this was the best thing to do. It is a sad outcome but these things happen.”

Reports have not indicated what exactly went wrong with the firm to precipitate such a drastic move. But commentators point out that the firm a unique for its majority female partnership.
