Vote nears at Herbert Smith as senior partner prepares exit

November 3, 2014 Senior partner of Herbert Smith Freehills, Jonathan Scott, will step down on 31 January 2015, three months before the end of his 5-year term. Scott will retire after 35 years of working at the firm. His replacement will head the influential Partnership Council.

As his planned departure draws near, a vote this week will be held between four partners who are vying to replace Scott in one of the most powerful positions at the firm. 453 partners will vote, with completion expected by the end of this week.

The four candidates to replace Scott are:

James Palmer, based in London and considered a corporate heavyweight
Tim Parkes, London head of litigation
Mark Crean, based in Sydney and deputy senior partner
Allen Hanen, based in Moscow and managing partner of EMEA
