Clifford Chance appoints transformative global heads

January 20, 2015 Clifford Chance managing partner Matthew Layton announced the appointment of a new COO and the creation of the global head of innovation and business change, in a move that signals the firm's new direction under his early tenure as managing partner.

Bas Boris Visser, currently Clifford Chance Amsterdam managing partner, assumes the newly created global head role effective immediately. Caroline Fistbrook, who joins from Accenture, will take over as COO for Amanda Burton on 11 February.

Fistbrook's consultancy background is expected to help in navigating market challenges. Visser will be tasked with understanding the market's direction and developing strategic responses.

Layton was made managing partner in May 2014 and has overseen sweeping changes early in his term, including an overhaul of the firm's constitution in order to forego leadership elections.
