Herbert Smith Freehills makes local alliance in Singapore
Herbert Smith Freehills has entered into a so-called best friend agreement with Singapore law firm Prolegis and given up its Qualifying Foreign Law Practice. HSF cannot practice Singapore law in its Singapore office, which houses 11 partners. Alastair Henderson, arbitration specialist, leads that office and will now focus its operations on UK, Australian and US law in finance, M&A and international arbitration.
HSF's license to practice Singapore law was earned in 2008. After the recent agreement, all local law cases will be forwarded to Prolegis.
Prolegis is a small, three-lawyer firm run by its sole partner, Ban Leong Oo. Oo formerly practiced for HSF in London and was partner for seven years at Drew & Napier as well as a consultant recently for Allen & Overy.
