Kirkland & Ellis hires from Linklaters again

May 4, 2015 For the second time this year, Kirkland & Ellis hired away a partner of long standing from Linklaters. Paula Riedel, who was UK competition head at Linklaters, will depart to join Kirkland. In February, Kirkland hired Matthew Elliot, formerly Linklaters' real estate M&A head. It is a significant blow for Linklaters, where Riedel trained beginning in 1994. She became partner in 2003 and took her post as competition head in London just over a year ago.

In the wake of Riedel's exit, Linklaters will temporarily turn to her predecessor, Michael Cutting, to oversee the responsibilities Riedel leaves behind. Cutting is currently global competition head.

Riedel works in the mining, energy and financial services sectors. Her specialty is in UK, European Commission and multi-national merger control. She will be the third competition partner at Kirkland, joining Sarah Jordan and Shaun Goodman, who came to Kirkland in 2011.
