Sheppard Mullin nab Hogan Lovells competition head

October 13, 2015 Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP, a US firm, has hired away Hogan Lovells's head of antitrust, competition and economic regulation practice, Jacques Derenne.

Derenne will be tasked with launching an EU competition and regulatory practice for the firm in Brussels, where he was also previously based. The practice will begin with two counsel as well as partner Robert Klotz, who joins from Mayer Brown.

Derenne has worked on some high profile cases, for example the Chronopost litigation, where he represented DHL, Fedex, UFEX, to tackle the notion of cross-subsidies and the role of national courts in state aid issues. He also worked on the landmark Alstom restructuring aid case. In addition to his practice, Derenne teaches competition law at the University of Liège and the Brussels School of Competition.
