Watson Farley & Williams treads into Vietnam with eye on China
Watson Farley & Williams has struck a deal to enter a formal association and cooperation arrangement with Vietnamese firm LVN & Associates. Based in Hanoi, LVN previously had a mutual agreement with Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe.
LVN is a local firm with four lawyers. The firm is led by partner Linh Quynh Doan, who has specialised on energy sector projects, like coal fired power projects. Linh was recruited as an of counsel in June this year by WFW in its Hong Kong office. The relationship that grew from there led to the current association.
Linh formerly practiced in Orrick's Hong Kong office. She founded LVN in 2010 and in the same year established an association with her former firm.
WFW for its part has several key clients in Vietnam. The firm believes it will fully integrate LVN into its fold in the future. The firm has four offices in South East Asia now, in Bangkok, Hanoi, Hong Kong and Singapore. Still, the firm believes it must find a fitting opportunity to launch in Shanghai or Beijing, in order to better establish itself in the region.
