Dentons enters Latin America through mergers
Dentons is expanding its reach into Latin America through two mergers, tying up with Colombian firm Cárdenas & Cárdenas and Mexican firm López Velarde Heftye y Soria, both full service firms. Cárdenas provides a litigation and intellectual property focus while López Velarde has an energy and telecoms focus. The firms have 55 and 35 lawyers, respectively.
The mergers must still be approved by partner votes at each of the firms, but the votes are expected to be confirmed in the next few weeks, making these latest mergers numbers six and seven for Dentons on the year.
The moves shouldn't come as much of a surprise, given that the firm last year appointed Jorge Alers as regional CEO. Alers' mandate included seeking out mergers in Mexico, Central and South America and also the Caribbean.
Just last week, Dentons merged with Luxembourg firm OPF Partners.
