Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe reveal Houston launch team

February 2, 2016 Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe is launching a new Houston operation and has hired 13 partners and two senior lawyers to support its endeavor. The lawyers come from other firms including DLA Piper and McDermott Will & Emery.

The new team will be able to cover several areas of practice for the new office. One headliner on the team is Blake Winburne, who was most recently global energy head at McDermotts. He joins Orrick as a co-leader of its global energy and infrastructure practice.

Two other partners from McDermott are also making the move, project finance specialists Matt Archer and Brad Garthwright. Andrews Kurth has lost four of its partners to Orrick, project partner Dahl Thompson, energy and project finance partners George Humphrey and Giji John as well as energy partner Darrell Thomas.

DLA Piper meanwhile loses its co-chair of global and US patent litigation practices, Claudia Wilson Frost and her fellow patent litigation partner, Jeffrey Johnson. Three public finance partner join Orrick from McGuire Woods, Todd Brewer, Hoang Vu and Marcus Deitz. Brewer is set to serve at vice-chair of public finance practice in Texas for Orrick.

The remaining members joining the Houston team at Orrick come from Susman Godrey, litigation partner Katherine Ginzburg Treistman and public finance senior counsel Kathryn Garner & J. Kent Friedmann.
