Retired Linklaters partner joins White & Case in Hong Kong
White & Case has hired Christopher Kelly to be head of its Asia practice. Kelly recently retired from Linklaters' partnership. He spent more than 20 years with the firm, first joining in London in 1995 and relocating to Hong Kong in 2004. He made partner at the firm in 2000.
A familiar face awaits Kelly at his new firm. Last year, private equity partner Peggy Wong departed Linklaters to join White & Case. Linklaters has endured a recent tailspin of partner departures. Several have left for rival firms such as Kirkland & Ellis, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and King & Wood Mallesons.
Kelly has worked on major M&A and equity capital markets transactions, notably AIG's spinoff of its Asian insurance arm AIA group valued at $20.5bn and Rio Tinto's proposed acquisition of a $19.5bn strategic stake by Chinalco.
