Volkswagen hires Clifford Chance partner
Clifford Chance in Germany, David Detweiler, to be its general counsel in the United States. The hire comes several months after a scandal involving manipulated emissions tests hit the global car manufacturer.
Detweiler advised Volkswagen while with Clifford Chance. His last engagement as their adviser was through an issuance of $2.8bn of corporate bonds last May. He began his new position with the car maker on 1 February, which includes the title of executive vice president at Volkswagen of America Group.
The car maker has an eye on shoring up its relationships with legislators and bureaucrats in the wake of the recent emissions scandal. Detweiler's hire is part of those efforts.
