Garrigues acquires Chilean firm

March 9, 2016 Garrigues has absorbed Chilean firm Avedaño Merino, in a move that will see the firm's reach expand further in Latin America. The Chilean firm will be known from this point as Garrigues Chile.

More than 20 lawyers working at the firm will become part of the Garrigues team, five of whom will become partners. The five new partners are Oscar Ferrari, Luis Felipe Merino, José Miguel Rioseco, Luis Eduardo Correa, and Rodrigo Fernández.

Garrigues withdrew from its Latin American alliance in 2013 and since that time, has steadily grown its own presence in the region. The firm now has offices in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. Between all of its offices, the firm has 100 lawyers.

Garrigues Chile focuses on corporate law and places a particular emphasis on M&A, energy, real estate and tax. With the addition of Garrigues Chile, the Iberian based firm leads all European firms with respect to number of offices in the region.
