Stephenson Harwood Guangzhou alliance formalized
Stephenson Harwood and Guangzhou-based firm Wei Tu has been finalized. The firms were able to complete the process by creating an association that is permissible within the scope of a free trade agreement between Mainland China and Hong Kong.
The firms first initiated their alliance in December 2014 after Stephenson Harwood’s Guangzhou office closed. Stephenson Harwood aimed to continue service for its clients in the region following the closure. Former members of the Stephenson Harwood Guangzhou team established the local firm. The firm currently has four lawyers, and is led by PRC-qualified shipping lawyer Xianming Lu.
The association that links the two firms is known as the Stephenson Harwood – Wei Tu (China) Association. Within its frame, the two firms may offer clients Hong Kong, English and PRC law advice without bureaucratic hassle. PRC law advice, however, may only be supplied by Wei Tu.
