Mori Hamada & Matsumoto acquires Chandler & Thong-ek in Thailand

Mori Hamada & Matsumoto (MHM), a leading firm in Japan, has acquired Thai firm Chandler & Thong-ek (C&T), in the first international expansion by a Japanese law firm involving a merger. The merger further reinforces MHM’s recent push into Southeast Asia, following last year’s office opening in Bangkok. Prior to the merger, the two firms had been working on related matters in Thailand and were housed in the same building. The merger is expected to be completed in January 2017, and will operate as Chandler MHM Limited. Satoshi Kawai, corporate partner at MHM, and Niwes Phancharoenworakul, managing partner at C&T, will head up the new operation, which will add a total of 45 new lawyers to MHM’s Thai offices.
