Autumn retention at 82% for Clifford Chance

Clifford Chance has retained 82 per cent of its autumn qualifiers this year, with 41 of 49 qualifiers receiving offers, and 40 accepting. This figure represents a slight increase from the firm’s retention rate of 80 per cent this past spring. Other magic circle firms have reported even higher retention rates. Allen & Overy retained 86 per cent, Linklaters retained 91 per cent, and Freshfields retained 95 per cent of trainees this autumn. Meanwhile, Eversheds retained just 77 per cent of qualifiers, its lowest figure in years. US firm Sullivan & Cromwell retained all four of the firm’s final-seat trainees, who will all be based in London, joining the firm’s General Practice group.
