K&L Gates combines with Chicago law firm Bell Boyd

K&L Gates and Bell, Boyd & Lloyd partners voted today to combine the law firms, effective March 1. The combined firm will have approximately 1,900 lawyers in 31 offices throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. The two firms had confirmed talks last month. Two weeks ago, K&L Gates launched an office in Frankfurt, Germany, its 29th location. Bell, Boyd & Lloyd has offices in Chicago, San Diego and Washington, D.C.. The combined firm, which will just use the name K&L Gates, will comprise about 1,900 lawyers in then 31 offices throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. The National Law Journal recently ranked K&L Gates the 10th largest law firm in the United States. The firm grossed $959.5 million in 2008. Its profit per partner (PEP) was up 7 percent last year to $855,000.
