SJ Berwin sounds out US firms as Stateside strategy moves up agenda

SJ Berwin is reviewing its US strategy and has sounded out a small number of law firms about merger possibilities. The firm's management is looking at whether it should actively target a US union and is already engaged in early talks with up to four US firms, although it has not yet identified any one firm as a target. SJ Berwin has been narrowing its US referral relationships for some time, previously identifying firms including Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison, Cooley Godward Kronish and Goodwin Procter as allies.
