King & Wood appoints new international managing partner
Beijing’s King & Wood has scooped up top talent Rupert Li, formerly a capital markets partner at Clifford Chance, and has appointed him as the firm’s international managing partner. King & Wood is one of China’s largest firms – with over 800 lawyers in a dozen offices in China. Last year the firm looked further abroad, acquiring Hong Kong firm Arculli Fong & Ng and opening offices in Tokyo, Silicon Valley and New York. Li will divide his time between Beijing and the 40-lawyer Hong Kong office. He says King & Wood will continue to work closely international firms and has no plans to compete with them anytime soon for the kinds of high-profile capital markets deals on which he once worked.
