Firms leave qualifying trainees out in the cold

Olswang has announced that 14 of the 24 qualifying trainees – just 58 per cent – will secure a place with the firm after September. RollOnFriday reports that 19 places were offered to the trainees, but that some departments were oversubscribed, and the trainees chose to go elsewhere rather than to make do with what was offered. Meanwhile, McGrigors is keeping on just 64% of its qualifiers. It has been reported that the firm said it would offer 30 places to its 36 qualifying trainees, but the firm has decided to offer only 22 places because of ‘continuing fragile market conditions’.
