Smoke & Mirrors - law schools inflate grades

The New York Times has an interesting article reporting on the trend for law schools to retroactively inflate grades in order to assist students with entry into a difficult labour market. Loyola Law School Los Angeles will inflate grades by 0.333 next month, following the lead of at least 10 other schools ( including New York University, Georgetown, Golden Gate University and Tulane University) that have changed their grading systems in the last two years. According to the article, some recruiters at law firms keep track of these changes and consider them when interviewing, and some do not. And of course, there is the problem that as the average creeps up, law schools are under increased pressure to keep raising their grades.
