Former Halliwells solicitor struck from the roll for embezzlement

A former Halliwells solicitor has been found guilty of embezzling over £90,000 from the firm's clients. During his time as a real-estate lawyer in the firm’s Manchester office, Martin Roberts re-directed client money into his own account (and that of a fellow associate). Roberts’ scam came to an end when the accounts department found discrepancies in the invoices. A court has ordered that Roberts repay £70,000, and that his assets be frozen. Roberts has been struck from the roll.
