Freshfields appoints Simpsons counsel to equity partnership

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has boosted its high-yield practice with the hire of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett counsel Gil Strauss. Strauss has been taken on as an equity partner at the magic circle firm. US corporate head Sarah Murphy said Strauss will join a new legal team offering a more complete practice in both the high-yield and broader corporate finance spaces. “High-yield’s become a niche practice when it should be part of a mainstream product,” she said. “We feel we can offer something that no one else can offer, as we can advise on the senior debt side and equity side as well.”
