Tougher restrictions for UK 'ambulance chasers'

The British Government is backing plans to restrict the aggressive advertising of so called "ambulance-chasing" lawyers. The statement comes after the release of a study commissioned by David Cameron and conducted by former trade secretary Lord Young of Graffham, which found that members of the public are encouraged by unscrupulous lawyers to pursue frivolous personal injury and negligence cases. The study was also critical of the law relating to "good Samaritans", finding that "well-meaning" people are deterred from voluntarily offering assistance for fear of prosecution. The report recommends new controls on the volume and contents of the advertisements, warning that current restrictions do not go far enough.
