Survey reports on the salaries of Washington lawyers

The Washingtonian magazine has released a salary survey issue, reporting on the salaries of all manner of professionals in the US capital, and including a section on lawyers and judges. Profits per partner at major Washington law firms Hogan Lovells: $1.21 million. WilmerHale: $1.16 million. Williams & Connolly: $1.18 million. Gibson Dunn & Crutcher: $1.91 million. Legal recruiters estimate that certain key partners at these firms are making a lot more – in the order of $3 million to $4 million annually. If they decided to leave their firms, competing bids to recruit them could reach the $5-million-to-$10-million range. First-year associates at top law firms Associates at WilmerHale, Hogan Lovells, Covington & Burling, and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom make around $160,000 before bonuses. Summer Associates at top law firms Summer Associates are taking home more than $3,000 a week. The survey also reports on the kind of pay cuts taken by lawyers leaving private practice for the public sector, and the salaries of key public servants.
