Winston & Strawn hires just 15 Howrey partners after finding client conflicts

Winston & Strawn managing partner Tom Fitzgerald says that conflicts of interest thwarted the firm’s plan to hire 140 partners from the failing Howrey. At final count, only 15 Howrey partners ended up joining Winston & Strawn. According to reports, Winston & Strawn didn’t make job offers where there were obvious conflicts, but many more conflicts were discovered after the job offers had been made. "It's a disappointment for us because of the respect we had for Howrey," said Fitzgerald. "Conflicts can be difficult to deal with in our profession."
