US legal sector sheds 2,600 jobs this month
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics has released new figures showing that the legal industry shed 2,600 jobs this month. This result represents the fourth month this year during which the legal sector saw jobs decline. Looking at the broader US economy, 18,000 new jobs were added in June – a somewhat disappointing result after three consecutive months strong job growth. The agency also revised its legal industry employment data for April and May on Friday, with some big changes to the figures. The orignnal reporting estimated that 1,500 jobs were added to the legal sector in April, with 1,000 jobs lost in May. The revised figures show that in fact the sector lost 700 jobs in April, and added 200 jobs in May.
