Macfarlanes hires new head of real estate from Shearman & Sterling

Macfarlanes bolstered its real estate practice with the hire of Senior Partner Ian Nisse US firm Shearman & Sterling. Nisse leaves his role as co-head of the real estate practice at Shearman to head the practice group at Macfarlanes, taking over from Simon Hillson. Macfarlanes senior partner Charles Martin said that real estate is a core practice area for the firm, adding: "The fact that it is not a fashionable area among many other City firms, having been relatively quiet for a while, makes the opportunity more interesting - especially as the legal demands of the real estate industry are increasingly complex in exactly the areas in which we are already strong. "Ian will help us to raise further the profile of the practice and to position it for the future."
