Proskauer Rose sued for discrimination by senior employee

Proskauer Rose - one of the leading labor and employment firms in the US – has been sued for wrongful termination of its chief financial officer. Proceedings were brought in state court in New York by Elly Rosenthal, who seeks $10 million in damages. As this article in the Wall Street Journal points out, discrimination suits by senior-level employees like Ms. Rosenthal are relatively rare. Ms. Rosenthal alleges that she was demoted by the firm after she returned from a 2008 medical leave for breast-cancer treatment, and was later terminated. "Elly was treated in a way in which men who took medical leave at the firm were not treated," her attorney, David Sanford, said in an interview. "No one who is returning from cancer leave should have to worry about being demoted upon her return or worry about being terminated shortly thereafter."
