Kasowitz expands IP practice with Silicon Valley launch
Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman has expanded its intellectual property practice with the launch of an office in Silicon Valley. The office will be led by Douglas Lumish - the chair of the firm’s IP group – and will open its doors with an eight-lawyer team focusing on IP litigation. This team includes the group that followed Lumish to Kasowitz from Weil, Gotshal & Manges in January, as well as a first-year associate hire. The firm plans to expand the office to between 15 and 20 lawyers during 2012. At Weil, Lumish served as trial counsel on high-profile patent litigation matters for clients such as Microsoft and Oracle. According to Lumish, Kasowitz is currently handling pending patent litigation matters for Apple, Oracle, Skype, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, Yahoo!, navigation company Trimble, and translation company TransPerfect.
