Energy lawyers are in high demand in Washington DC as the energy market continues to see high activity. This article surveys the major lateral moves in this practice area over the past few months. Most recently, McDermott Will & Emery boosted its energy practice with the hire of natural gas regulatory partner Karol Lyn Newman from Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. Newman described her move to McDermott as “an amazing fit” and said that it “blends the strength of my regulatory practice with McDermott’s internationally-recognized transactions practice in the energy area.” Venable has announced the addition of five energy lawyers in Washington DC. Partners David DeSalle and Daniel Malabonga and associate Michael Splete join from Duane Morris, and partner Brian Zimmet and associate Jason Wool come to the firm Hunton & Williams. The co-chair of Veneble’s government practice, Brock Landry, said: “Energy issues occupy such a critical role in our economy today, and that makes the addition of these three partners both timely and fortuitous”.
