Legal support staff get a rough deal at bonus time
Above the Law has been keeping a close eye on announcements regarding annual bonuses from large law firms. Their reporting has noted that the size of this year’s payouts is underwhelming to many who are receiving them. This article points out, however, that many legal professionals, including paralegals, secretaries, government lawyers and law clerks may get no bonus at all. Many Biglaw firms used the recession as an excuse to stop paying out staff bonuses, and those that do pay them have frozen the amounts awarded over the past few years, even as profits per partner continue to rise.
