Law firms flock to launch in Washington DC

Law firms are establishing Washington DC offices at a cracking pace, drawn by the promise of booming regulatory and international work. In the past 10 months, at least seven firms opened DC offices: Becker & Poliakoff, Mitchell Williams, Fredericks Peebles & Morgan, Allen & Overy, Sedgwick, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan and Bass Berry & Sims. And Miles & Stockbridge is set to launch a DC office this week. A Washington office “can make clients feel like they have people at the center of the regulatory universe,” said Jeffrey Lowe, managing partner of the D.C. office of legal staffing firm Major, Lindsey & Africa. “There’s a prestige factor there.”
