UK firm Simmons & Simmons keeps just 2 of 8 qualifying trainees
Simmons & Simmons has announced that just two of its eight qualifying trainees will be taking up post-qualification employment with the firm. According to a statement, six of the eight applied for roles with the firm, which offered positions to three. The firm’s Managing Partner and Graduate Recruitment Partner explained that the poor retention rate was a result of "difficult market conditions", and have attempted to reassure the remaining trainees that they won’t be facing the same woeful prospects when they qualify. The figures don’t cast a good light on Simmons, especially when other firms are achieving far higher retention rates, like Ashurst, which retained 78 per cent of its trainees, Norton Rose, which also kept 78 per cent and Berwin Leighton Paisner, who did even better with 88 per cent.
