South Africa to reform legal industry
The Justice Minister for South Africa, Jeff Radebe, has announced a program of reform for the country’s legal services industry, with numerous changes to be made in the judiciary and the wider legal profession. Radebe highlighted the need for adequate training for lawyers in both the private and public sector, and said that steps ought to be taken to ensure that women are able to advance into leadership positions. The government also seeks to change the way that it awards briefs for government work, in order to overcome the prejudices that operate to the disadvantage of women, black people, and those suffering from disabilities.
