US law firms among top donors in presidential race

The US presidential candidates are making news with their race to raise cash to fund their campaigns. Lawyers and lawfirms have been rushing to donate to both candidates, making the legal industries among the biggest donating industries in the US. As of the 21st of June, lawyers had pitched in $5.2 million for Romney’s campaign and$12.4 million for Obama’s campaign, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Kirkland & Ellis is among Romney’s top 20 contributors by organization, donating a total of $264,302, which includes money from the firm’s PAC as well as donations from individual employees and their families. Meanwhile, six of Obama’s top 20 contributors by organization are major law firms, including DLA Piper, which contributed $306,727; Sidley Austin ($257,296); Skadden Arps ($169,753); Morgan & Morgan ($135,145); WilmerHale ($117,661); and Kirkland & Ellis ($113,770).
