UK firm Shoosmiths cuts 86 staff

Shoosmiths has announced that it is laying off 86 staff, after a two-month consultation process. The cuts comprise 71 voluntary and 15 compulsory redundancies, with the firm's volume motor personal injury team in Basingstoke taking the biggest hit. The redundancies were deemed necessary by the firm for the restructuring of its consumer arm, Access Legal. Private client practice group head David Palmer said: "It is very regrettable that we had to make redundancies as part of the restructuring. This has been a difficult time, and those affected have conducted themselves with professionalism and dignity throughout the consultation process. We wish them well in the future."
