US judicial salaries rise by 1% per annum

A new survey shows that judicial salaries in the US are increasing by a mere one per cent annually. The report, put together by the National Center for State Courts, looked at salary data between 2007 and 2012 in all US states. The flat judicial salaries of recent years can be contrasted with pre-recession pay increases of around 3.24% per year between 2003 and 2007. Industry observers caution that without better compensation, the judiciary will lose talented practitioners to private practice. According to the reported data, judges earn between $115,000 to $229,000.
