Former CIO at Chicago-based Mayer Brown accused of fraud

A former chief information officer at Chicago-based Mayer Brown has been accused of defrauding the firm of nearly $7.8 million through a fake billing scheme with an outside technology firm that submitted invoices for work that had not been performed. David Tresch, 51, was hired at Mayer Brown in 2004 as a server operations manager, and was promoted to become director of global operations in 2008, and then CIO in July 11. He was fired in June of this year when details of his alleged fraud came to light. Tresch has been charged with one count of mail fraud, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years and a $250,000 fine.
