Partner compensation at US firms jumps 6%

A new survey shows that partners in US law firms are earning 6 per cent more this year than in 2010 - with average compensation rising from $640,000 in 2010 to $681,000 in 2012. The survey was conducted by legal consulting group Major, Lindsey & Africa and the research unit of ALM Media, with inputs from 74,000 law firm partners in more than 70 US cities. Average partner compensation was highest in Silicon Valley, where partners took home an average of $1.2 million, followed by New York ($1 million) and coming in third was Washington DC and Northern Virginia ($798,000).
