Zhou Qiang tipped to lead top Chinese court

Zhou Qiang, the Communist Party chief of Hunan province, is widely tipped to become the chief judge of the Supreme People’s Court in China. The appointment that would make him the first lawyer to hold the position in the Court’s history. Potential rivals for the role are 57 year old Cao Jianming, who is the country's top prosecutor, and 58 year old Shen Deyong, a vice-president of the top court. Qiang is the Communist Party chief of Hunan province. A decision is yet to be announced and the appointment will take place in March 2013, at the completion of the leadership transition at the 18th party congress.
