Clifford Chance to cut trainee headcount as of 2018

Clifford Chance has announced that the firm will reduce its number of trainee recruits beginning in September 2018. The firm plans to recruit 80 trainees each year, a 20 per cent drop from its current trainee count of around 100 per year. The move comes as several magic circle firms respond to changes brought about by the recession. Allen & Overy and Linklaters are among firms slashing trainee numbers, while some firms outside the magic circle have increased recruitment.
