Akin Gump adjusts associate pay
Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld has announced a change to associate pay in light of a fluctuating pound. Newly-qualified (NQ) lawyers in the firm’s London office will be paid $180,000, or approximately £150,000. The change is meant to equalize London associate salaries with those of their US counterparts during a time of exchange rate volatility. Akin Gump will review exchange rates every quarter and readjust as necessary. According to senior partner James Roome, the firm is aiming to attract top talent by keeping London salaries commensurate with New York pay. Several other London-based firms have also recently reviewed and adjusted their pay packets.
