Freshfields M&A partner hired by Simpson Thacher

Simpson Thacher & Bartlett has hired Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer partner Ben Spiers, who will join Simpson Thacher’s M&A group. The firm has expanded its London base recently and now employs 17 partners in the City. While at Freshfields, Thacher headed up the firm’s TMT group for five years, and worked with clients such as Air Products, BT, Hewlett-Packard, Morgan Stanley, and Sony, among others. Simpson Thacher executive committee chair Bill Dougherty has described Spiers as one of the top M&A lawyers in England.
