Two partners exit Akin Gump in Russia to launch independent firm

Two partners from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld’s Moscow office have departed from the firm to launch their own independent firm. The new firm, which will operate as Rybalkin, Gortsunyan & Partners (RGP), is led by Ilya Rybalkin and Suren Gortsunyan and includes 11 other members, including associates, paralegals, and counsel. Following the team’s departure, Akin Gump’s Moscow office will have a new total of 18 lawyers. The move signals a shift away from western firms and toward independent firms in Russia, where business have seen recent tensions with their western counterparts.
