Lehman lets Weil Gotshal reclaim bankruptcy lead from Kirkland

Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP is advising Lehman Brothers on its bankruptcy filing. US firm Weil Gotshal, the No. 1 bankruptcy firm for decades representing almost every historic restructuring from Enron Corp. to WorldCom Inc., will preside over asset sales of about $639 billion -- as much as six times larger than any other Chapter 11 case. Weil Gotshal appeared about to be dethroned this year, when Chicago-based Kirkland & Ellis was leading the bankruptcy rankings by June, handling six of the 12 largest cases, according to Bloomberg.
