Energy veteran Jacob Worenklein joins Bingham in New York
Bingham McCutchen LLP has added Jacob Worenklein, founder & CEO of U.S. Power Generating Co. and former Milbank's partner, as a corporate partner in its New York office. Worenklein has held legal, financial and executive positions in energy and project finance for more than 30 years. From 1973 to 1993, He was a partner at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP, where he founded and headed Milbank's project development and finance practice. In 2003, Worenklein founded U.S. Power Generating Co., which owns and operates 5,200 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, including power plants in New York City representing over 20 percent of the city's generating capacity, and power plants in Boston, which serve approximately 50 percent of the total demand for power in the Boston metropolitan area. Prior to founding U.S. Power Generating Co., Worenklein served as global head of project finance at Lehman Brothers and as global head of the energy, power, infrastructure and project finance sectors at Société Générale. "Jay Worenklein is the dean of energy and project finance," said Bingham Chairman Jay S. Zimmerman. In August 2009, Bingham combined with McKee Nelson, a 120-lawyer firm in New York and Washington, D.C., known for its structured finance, tax and financial institutions litigation practice. The combination increased the firm's presence to more than 200 lawyers in New York.
