CMS Cameron McKenna and Sullivan & Cromwell lead $7 billion BP sell off
CMS Cameron McKenna and Sullivan & Cromwell have scored leading roles in BP's $7 billion asset sale to Houston-based Apache. The sale of oil and gas assets in Canada, Egypt and the US is aimed at freeing funds for dealing with the aftermath of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Sullivan & Cromwell’s team acted as global coordinating counsel to BP on the deal with a team led by M&A partner James Morphy, IP co-head John Evangelakos and finance partner Christine Spillane. CMS Cameron McKenna is acting as UK counsel to BP with a team led Penelope Warne including partners Eleanor Layton and Stephen Millar. Apache secured the services of Slaughter and May as UK counsel, and the firm provided a team led by M&A partner Charles Randell and antitrust chair Philippe Chappatte. Apache was also advised by US firm Bracewell & Giuliani, with a 27-lawyer team led by chairman and energy partner Patrick Oxford. Canadian law advice was provided by Canadian firm Osler Hoskin & Harcourt.
