Good news for law students: New York summer programs expand

The New York Law Journal has published some good news for law school graduates. Columbia Law School has reported that their second-year students have secured 8 per cent more interviews than last year. The summer programs at some New York firms will be larger this year, after major reductions last year. Cravath, Swaine & Moore plans to take on about 70 to 80 summer associates next year – up from 22 this year, but less than the 121 summer associates in 2009. Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom plans to hire 100 summer associates firmwide, up from the 78 hired in 2010. Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy is set to take on 50 summer associates in New York next year – a huge increase on the 16 taken for this year, though still less than the 2009 program, which hosted 60 summer associates. White & Case aims to hire 35 summer associates in New York, up from the 21 from this year.
