2010 sees leaner US summer associate programs
2010 was another tough year for summer associates, with many firms reducing the size of their summer intake, cutting the length of their summer programs, or doing away with the program all together. On the bright side, firms were more likely to offer summer clerks a full time position this year. Almost three-quarters of those who answered The American Lawyer's 2010 Summer Associates Survey said they already had or expected to get an offer from their firms. These results are certainly an improvement on last year, when about half of the associates surveyed expected to receive full-time offers.
