UK training contracts in decline

October 29, 2010 The total number of training contracts offered at the top 30 UK law firms has shrunk by 11 per cent in the last three years, according to survey results published by Legal Week.

The competition is particularly fierce in London, with top firms seeing a 16 per cent increase in the number applications for training positions between 2008 and 2010, while the number of available places dropped by 7 per cent.

Outside of London the odds are not as bad, because the decreasing number of positions has been accompanied by a 33 per cent decline in the number of applicants.
